AMCF is a FREE one-day celebration of African culture is a December highlight and the only place where you will you see over 35 African countries and community organisations represented through music, food, fashion, dance, art and culture - right in the heart of Melbourne. Kick off summer at Australia's largest and hottest African festival!

We are delighted to welcome many VIPs at the official proceedings which start at 1:45pm including the Lord Mayor of Melbourne The Right Honourable Sally Capp, Minister for Multicultural Affairs Hon Richard Wynne, Leader of the Opposition The Hon Michael O'Brien, Shadow Minister of Multicultural Affairs Hon Neil Angus, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Hon David Davis, Federal Member for Melbourne Hon Adam Bandt, Federal Member for Wills Hon Peter Khalil, Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police Graham Ashton APM, Emergency Management Victoria Commissioner Andrew Crisp APM, Ex-Premier Ted Baillieu, Family Court of Australia The Honourable Mr Justice Josh Wilson, Department of Treasury and Finance Secretary David Martine, Department of Education and Training Secretary Jenny Atta, Slater and Gordon CEO John Somerville, Deloitte Managing Partner for Victoria Paul Rehder, KPMG Australia Chair Alison Kitchen, Commonwealth Bank GM Huss Mustafa OAM, captains of industry, Consul Generals, African Australian communities leaders, not-for-profit organisation leaders, Government and business representatives (refer attached VIP attendee document for full list).

In its sixth year, AMCF is now a firm fixture on the Melbourne events calendar. With a multi-layered festival program delivering 12 hours of non-stop live entertainment (from 10am - 10pm) from dance, fashion, free drumming lessons, arts, incredible raffle prizes, and spoken word; along with authentic mouth-watering African street food - there is plenty of opportunity to learn about the diverse African continent. Plus, there's a swag of market stalls on hand selling traditional wares, so visitors can take a piece of Africa home.

For families, there is kid's entertainment including African drumming classes, face painting, jumping castles, Santa's grotto, mascots, balloonist and more!

With the rhythms, sounds and tastes of Africa spread throughout Federation Square and the River Terrace, the atmosphere is electric and guaranteed to make you feel good. With so much happening throughout the 12-hour festival, it can be hard to know where to start! We recommend grabbing lunch on the River Terrace at one of our African street foods stalls and then immersing yourself in the incredible main stage live performances or vibrant art at our Arts Hub.

At the heart of AMCF is the promotion of "Celebrating Diversity and Harmony" through cross cultural awareness, mutual respect, education, understanding and unity, whilst providing locals and visitors with a unique opportunity to experience and celebrate Africa's

diversity. The festival also pays respect to our traditional elders the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation with a traditional ceremony to officially open the event.
